Blue Shield exposed 4.7 million patients’ private health info to Google. Your most private information may now be fueling ads, pricing decisions, and phishing scams.

Great article. I particularly liked how you framed the need to care. I’ve been banging on personal tech privacy and getting nowhere. And when I talk with people, they’re so blasé it makes we cry inside.
I’m working on a solution but haven’t found one yet. Willing to share what resonates for you?
Maybe if Blue Shield of CA stopped coming up with gimmicky programs run by 3rd parties they would have more money to approve medical procedures for their insured or hire better programmers and cybersecurity. Every week we get a mailer from them telling us to sign up for this back program and get a free massager, walk and stretch program with a free pedometer, pain management program which consists of answering the same 10 questions once a month. Although there was a flyer that came out around October or November which was for a 3rd party to "coordinate" all your health care. The hook was you would be able to be seen faster. The small print was that it was a referral service set up like an HMO. Yes, you would be able a specialist faster but only if they thought you needed to actually see a specialist. Now I wonder how many of these third party services are legit.
Thanks so much for the info y'all post!
I do as much as I possibly can to keep my info private (but then, here I am on substack and you can't tell me my info isn't getting mined! $$$)
You wonder how much of a kickback they got for the 'accidental' 4 year breach?
I'm 63 years old and I feel I can honestly say... we're fucked!
Keep up the good work!!!

I'm seriously thinking about going back to my computer and rss and getting off my phone and apps! Funny how they make it soooo convenient 🤔
Thanks!
